Open Day Update

Harlow Agricultural Merchants Ltd held their main farmer Open Day on Tuesday 16th June at Latchmore Bank. The day was a great success with over 200 farmers enjoying good weather and a full programme of technical presentations followed by an excellent sit down meal and an after dinner talk by Rodrick McSherry, Agricultural Counselor to the US Embassy.

The technical presentations were given by a mixture of guest speakers and in house staff and covered the following areas:

Wheat Varieties for the coming autumn. Highlighted were:

  • Gallant – The new milling wheat
  • Battalion – A promising group 2
  • Scout – A new group 3 soft wheat
  • Aerobic – A new, very early Soissons type with improved yield

Herbicide Trials looking at the alternative management approaches to grass weed control on heavy land.

Fertiliser markets an insight to the world nitrogen market and an excellent down to earth presentation of the advantages of Cropkare and the best methods of integrating its use into the rotation.

Rape Seed. A comprehensive update on the new opportunities presented by the Vistive rape variety V140 OL which offers excellent field performance and great premium opportunities.
